Outdoor adventure is the promise made to boys when they join Scouting. Boys yearn for outdoor programs that stir their imagination and interest.

In the outdoors, boys have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliant. They can explore canoe and hiking trails and complete challenges they first thought were beyond their ability. Attributes of good character become part of a boy as he learns to cooperate to meet outdoor challenges that may include extreme weather, difficult trails and portages, and dealing with nature's unexpected circumstances. Scouts plan and carry out activities with thoughtful guidance from their Scoutmaster and other adult leaders. Good youth leadership, communication, and teamwork enable them to achieve goals they have set for themselves, their patrol or squad, and their troop or team.

Boy Scouts of America operates several "high adventure" sites around the country. In addition, each state and council also operate camps and facilities - not to mention the wealth of outdoor opportunities available to Scouts through the US National Parks System!

The four High Adventure BSA Camps are:

SeaBase on Islamorada in the Florida Keys.  Lottery selection to attend begins in early January. SCUBA, fishing, sailing, and marine biology make this a unique and unforgettable Scout experience!

Northern Tier in Minnesota.  Cold-weather sports and snow camping in winter; gorgeous hikes and lakes in summer.

Philmont Ranch in New Mexico, the premier BSA experience.  Perhaps the most well-known adventure in Scouting. Also offers day camps for younger tag-along siblings, and training workshops for adults.

The Summit at Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.  BSA's newest facility (2013) and permanent home of the National Jamboree. "Jambo" is held every four years in the summer and over 40,000 Scouts and leaders attend. The Summit offers white water, BMX, zip-lining, paddle-boarding, a suspension bridge over a huge gorge, and miles of trails. The Summit can be reserved by Troops for weekend or week long adventures outside of Jamboree as well.

National Scout Jamboree.  Ten Days. Every fourth year. Only 17 have been held. Once in a Lifetime. The next Jambo will be in July, 2017. And Troop 608 plans to be there!
